Framing Workshop by Lee Sim
Saturday, August 9th
9:00am – 2:00pm
Held at the Cultural Celebration Center
1355 W 3100 S, West Valley City, UT 84119
Alternative Framing Workshop
One of the challenges of creating calligraphy, or any paper based, artwork for display is the growing cost of framing. The framing process taught in this workshop was developed as an alternative to traditional, frame and mat behind glass, framing. This framing style simulates the look of a hanging scroll.
The goal of the workshop is to frame previously completed artwork through teaching the process and skills of this technique. The necessary jigs, specialized tools and materials will be provided to complete the framing. The goal of the workshop also is to provide
most of the materials and jigs necessary to complete additional framing at home.
The workshop will also include a segment on creating unique “mat papers” using a technique inspired by kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or
platinum).
